Pastor's Message

Jesus tells the parable of a rich farmer who spends all of his waking moments trying to accumulate more and more of the things that he believes are important in life. His barns are filled to the brim and still he wants more. He builds bigger and better barns to store the bounty that he is sure will come to him. But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' (Luke 12:20). Jesus says, this is how it will be for all who store up things for themselves but are not rich toward God. Subsequent verses remind us that God will take care of all of our needs just as he takes care of the needs of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field – we have nothing to worry about.

The point is that we need to have our priorities set on God and everything else will take care of themselves. God, who is a God of abundance, will provide all that we can possibly need in life. Placing God at the center of our lives means that we will be cared for, loved and most of all forgiven but our awesome God. To trust this means that we can, to paraphrase words of one of the characters from the Lion King, “not worry, but be happy” – happy in knowing that we are cared for by our loving God.

One of the things we strive to put into action at the Darlington & Fayette UMC’s is our belief in this promise. We trust that God is providing for us, both as individuals and as a congregation, and we try to allow this promise to guide all that we do as disciples of Jesus Christ. We invite you to come along with us on this journey of faithful living and become a part of our family at worship on Sunday morning. We invite you to join us soon.

Have a good rest of the summer celebrating the promise of God’s faithfulness in all that you do and all that you are.
                                                                                    Peace,
                                                                                    Pastor Larry
